Cancer is one of the most deadly diseases of our century. There are three basic methods of cancer treatment; chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery. Doubtless, radiotherapy is the most different approach for the patient because the patient and patient’s relatives have difficulty in understanding what are the rays used in radiotherapy and how they affect the patient. On the other hand, it is more influential than radiotherapy in the local treatment of cancer, and what’s more it is a painless treatment method. It is, however, very important that this treatment should be applied by the trained and well-equipped personnel. With this importance and necessity in mind, the Program of radiotherapy was founded in Nisantasi University also parallel to the developments in the world. The basic purpose of the program is to train health technicians who are qualified and equipped with the background and skills to control the equipment and materials, prepare the mask, patient position pattern, lead block and patient for treatment and simulation, and do the radiotherapy and simulation. Health sector is among the top professions where there is a sustainable source of employment. Thus, radiotherapy is one of the fields with a wide range of employments. The graduates of the program are entitled to work as ‘radiotherapy technician’ at hospitals, private clinics and radiotherapy centres of public and private sector.

Our university conducts interviews and meetings with the representatives of the companies in the sector in order to bring a quick and sustainable solution to the issues of internship and employment of our students before initiating the process of opening a program. Accordingly, we have collaboration in field of education and training with these firms for the practical courses to advance with the support of sector representatives. This collaboration offers significant advantages to the students of the program. The graduates of the Program of Radiotherapy can be employed by the public and private hospitals having the department of radiation oncology and the treatment institutions, private clinics and policlinics of the Ministry of Health and universities.

The syllabus of the Program of Radiotherapy consists of courses containing information that can be used in every stage of working life. Radiation Physics, Basic Oncology, Radiotherapy Devices and Dark Room Technique are the primary courses of the program.
